In this workshop you will learn practical strategies to teach your child daily living skills such as handwashing, brushing teeth, getting dressed or taking a shower. Strategies include learning how to break down a skill into smaller parts and how to use motivation to encourage success. This is accompanied by a one-hour follow up consultation to support with how to teach the daily living skill in the home setting.

This workshop will discuss strategies that are proven effective when teaching toileting skills. Participants will gain knowledge of steps of toilet training, teaching strategies to implement during the toilet training journey. This is accompanied by a one-hour follow up consultation to support implementation into the home setting.

TalkAbility Program

Participants will learn how your child carries on conversation and next steps to support back-and-forth conversations, how to encourage attending to non-verbal social messages, how to talk so they can tune in to what others are thinking, how to increase story-telling and play imaginatively, how to help them make friends

The Feeding Education Series (FES) consists of two educational sessions for parents.  Participants will learn the skills involved in eating, areas where their child may be having difficulty, and strategies and resources available to assist with feeding difficulties.

This Program provide parents with simple strategies to use during every day routines and activities to help their child interact more meaningfully with others and experience less frustration. Participants will receive 4 individual consultation sessions with caregiver & child; 8 group learning sessions for caregivers.

This series is for 8 sessions in a group format for caregivers; followed by up to 4 individual sessions with child afterwards (age 1 to 5 years old).

Who is Eligible:

What are the participation requirements?
• Have friendship problems
• Adolescents: Grade 6- 12
• Adolescents must be interested in attending the program
• Adolescents are voluntarily agreeing to participate in the program; one consistent parent is willing to participate and the family is able to attend at least 11 out of the 14 sessions.
• Adolescents must be performing at a Grade 6 academic level.
• Adolescents do not demonstrate any aggressive or offensive behaviours.

The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) for Adolescents is an evidence-based social skills intervention for motivated adolescents Grade 6 through Grade 12 who are interested in making and keeping friends and/or handling conflict and rejection.

This hands on presentation uses video clips, group discussions and activities to help children understand the difficulties with language, communication, and behaviour that students diagnosed with Autism face every day. The children participating will also have an opportunity to discuss strengths associated with an Autism diagnosis and will increase their awareness of the disorder.

This is an interactive in-person workshop for siblings of children with ASD; siblings between ages 4 to 7.

Exclusionary Criteria:
- Not applicable to anyone under the age of 4

This hands on presentation will allow children to “walk in someone else’s shoes”, by experiencing what it may be like to have visual, hearing, fine motor, gross motor, neurological and/or speech impairment. Gives the younger participants a better understanding and awareness of different challenges some children may experience on a day-to-day basis.

This service is intended for children aged 7-11 (2nd through 5th Grade)
-One adult is able to attend the weekly sessions with their child and to help them practice skills during the week.
-Children who can play simple board games and has a concept of winning and losing.
-Children who have had exposure to simple sports that are typically played at recess (Four Square, jump rope, soccer, etc.)
-Children who are able to maintain a shared focus in a conversation with another child.
-Behaviours can be controlled with reward and/or brief time away from the group.
-The child does not demonstrate any aggressive or offensive behavior.

Children’s Friendship Training is an evidence based interactive program delivered in module sessions in which children and families develop and practice social skills necessary to initiate and maintain meaningful peer relationships.

Through ten modules, children will learn to make phone calls, host play-dates, maintain play, share in the interests of others’, and respond appropriately to bullying/teasing. During these sessions, families will learn how to support their children in the exciting new world of social opportunities.

Participants will walk away with the knowledge and rationale for using visual supports, describe one of the following visual supports: visual schedule, a first & then board or a visual task analysis. Participants will have an opportunity to create an individualized visual to help support their child/ youth in the home environment.

Exclusionary Criteria:
Children under 10 years of age.
Children who are not able to pay attention in a group environment or follow basic instructions.

Age range can be 10 -18 years.
Additional notes about supports required: A guardian or guardian designate must be available to attend a pre and post group education sessions and be available each week of the children sessions to help the child with problem solving technology.

The child must have the ability to pay attention in a group environment and follow basic instructions with minimal to moderate support required.
