The PEERS® for Preschoolers program is not intended for children who have severe language delays, significant behavioral challenges (e.g., frequent aggression, self-injury, or running away), or very limited interest in social interaction. It may also not be suitable for children who cannot follow basic instructions, have extreme difficulty staying engaged in group activities, or whose parents are unable to commit to attending sessions and practicing skills at home.

PEERS® for Preschoolers is an evidence-based social skills program designed for children ages 4 to 6 who struggle with making and keeping friends. Developed at UCLA, this program provides a fun and supportive environment where children learn essential social and play skills. To participate, children should be able to use basic words to express themselves, follow simple directions, sit for short periods, and manage mild frustration. They should also show some interest in playing with others. Parent involvement is a key part of the program. While children learn social skills in their own small group sessions, parents attend concurrent coaching sessions. These sessions teach parents how to reinforce social skills at home and in everyday situations, helping children practice and apply what they learn. The program runs for 12 weeks in small group sessions, using role-playing, social coaching, play-based learning, and behavioral modeling. Families also receive homework assignments to support continued practice outside of class. Children develop skills such as starting conversations, taking turns, sharing, playing cooperatively, managing emotions, reading social cues, and responding to teasing or exclusion. By combining structured lessons, play, and active parent participation, PEERS® for Preschoolers helps children build confidence in social interactions and form meaningful friendships.

Fun with Food is designed for children aged 3 – 8 years of age that are selective feeders and eat a limited repertoire of foods. It is designed to increase children’s willingness to explore, interact, and accept new foods. Each child will receive a feeding assessment and then will participate in 8 sessions with peers.
The PEERS® School-Based Training program is not suitable for students who have severe behavioral challenges, such as frequent aggression, self-harm, or disruptive behavior that cannot be managed in a group setting. It also may not be appropriate for students with significant cognitive delays or very limited verbal communication, as these students may benefit more from individualized therapy before participating in a group-based program. Additionally, students who are not motivated to improve their social skills or who have little interest in interacting with peers may struggle to engage with the program.

PEERS® School-Based Training is a proven social skills program designed for middle and high school students (ages 11-13) who have difficulty making and maintaining friendships. The program helps students develop important social skills to build confidence and improve their relationships with peers. The program teaches key skills, including how to start and maintain conversations, join group activities, make and keep friends, understand social cues like body language and tone of voice, and handle rejection or conflict. It also focuses on self-regulation, helping students manage their emotions in social situations. The program runs for 12 weeks with weekly sessions that last 1 hour. Each session introduces a new social skill, which students practice through role-playing and real-life scenarios. There is also a homework component, encouraging students to practice these skills at home with the support of their parents. This helps reinforce learning and build real-world confidence. To participate, students should be able to follow basic instructions, engage in simple conversations, and show some interest in socializing with others. The program works best for students who are motivated to improve their social skills and are ready to learn. By the end of the program, students typically see improved peer relationships, greater social confidence, and better emotional regulation. These skills help students feel more comfortable in social situations and build stronger, lasting friendships.

Our Direct BCBA Consultation Service and Caregiver Coaching offers personalized support for caregivers who want to help their child reach specific goals. Through this service, caregivers will work one-on-one with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to develop and implement strategies tailored to their child’s needs. Caregivers will receive two sessions with the BCBA: the first session focuses on creating a clear plan for the child’s goal, and the second session ensures the strategies are working and provides adjustments if needed. This follow-up session is especially important, as it allows the BCBA to review progress, address challenges, and fine-tune the approach for continued success. Consultations are available virtually, by phone, or in-person where possible, providing flexibility for families. This service helps caregivers feel confident in their role and empowered to support their child’s development.

Children’s Friendship Training is an in-person, evidence-based social skills intervention for motivated children who are interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends. During each small-group session, children learn a new skill and practice it with other group members. Meanwhile, parents learn how to support their children’s social development, coaching them as they practice their skills in the real world. Your child will earn how to make a good first impression, conversing with other children, finding common interests with other children, playing fairly and being gracious when winning or losing, resolving conflicts, joining other children at play, being a good host on a playdate, and showing respect to other children and adults.

This program teaches parents practical ways to help their child learn people skills. By “people skills”, we mean the ability to “tune in” to the thoughts and feelings of others by paying attention to non-verbal cues such as body language, facial expressions, eye gaze, and tone of voice. The ability to consider other points of view and to have empathy for others is essential for successful conversations and for making friends. Children with social communication difficulties require extra help to develop these skills.
When you take the TalkAbility Program, you’ll learn:
How your child carries on conversation and the next steps to take to help him have back-and-forth conversations
How to encourage your child to pay attention to the social messages people send non-verbally
How to talk so your child can tune in to what others are thinking ; help them appreciate another person<s feelings and point of view
How to help your child tell stories and play imaginatively
How to help your child make friends

Speech and Language Individual Consultations are designed to allow for caregivers the opportunity to discuss 1-2 concerns they have about their child’s speech and language development. Families will meet with a registered Speech-Language Pathologist for a total of four 1:1 consultations, which will last 45 minutes each, and be offered in-person or virtually.
During the first consultation session, parents/caregivers will meet with the Speech-Language Pathologist to discuss concerns they have regarding their child’s communication development. At this time, functional strategies and goals will be shared with the caregivers to ensure that they have the knowledge and confidence required to allow them to help their child become a more effective communicator in everyday life. This service is designed for families of children who are not yet using verbal words to communicate, use a limited number of words, communicate with a communication device (i.e. PECS, Proloquo, SnapCore), struggle to produce speech sounds, communicate using incomplete sentences, or have difficulties with social communication and interaction with peers. No matter what the need is, we can help!
The remaining 3 consultation sessions will involve either only the parent, or both parent and child. The Speech-Language Pathologist will guide the parent in implementation of the strategies and goals discussed during the first consultation session.
