child must be able to have a back-and-forth conversation for up to 3 turns (if unable to, please refer to More Than Words Program)

Participants will learn how your child carries on conversation and next steps to support back-and-forth conversations, how to encourage attending to non-verbal social messages, how to talk so they can tune in to what others are thinking, how to increase story-telling and play imaginatively, and how to help them make friends. Participants will receive 4 individual consultation sessions with caregiver & child; 8 group learning sessions for caregivers.

Reinforcement is an integral element of ABA, and when used effectively, can dramatically increase skills in individuals diagnosed with ASD. Throughout this 2-hour workshop, participants will explore the various types, scheduled and effects of positive reinforcement.

This workshop series will provide caregivers with introductory and foundational information about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) in addition to an understanding of strategies and behaviour. There are 5 sessions in total.

This Program provides parents with simple strategies to use during every day routines and activities to help their child interact more meaningfully with others and experience less frustration. Participants will receive 4 individual consultation sessions with caregiver & child; 8 group learning sessions for caregivers.

The Feeding Education Series (FES) consists of four evening educational sessions for parents. Participants will learn the skills involved in eating, areas where their child may be having difficulty, and strategies and resources available to assist with feeding difficulties. Option of individual consultation follow ups will be available.

This parent and child group will focus on developing basic organizational skills for everyday life. Emphasis will be placed on organizational strategies for the school and home. Participants will learn the importance of being organized in their daily lives and strategies for how it can be maintained.

In-person
Location:Sault Ste Marie
Who is Eligible:

Children aged 7-11 (2nd through 5th Grade)

- One adult is able to attend the weekly sessions with their child and to help them practice skills during the week.
- Children who can play simple board games and has a concept of winning and losing.
- Children who have had exposure to simple sports that are typically played at recess (Four Square, jump rope, soccer, etc.)
- Children who are able to maintain a shared focus in a conversation with another child.
- Behaviours can be controlled with reward and/or brief time away from the group.
- The child does not demonstrate any aggressive or offensive behavior.

Children’s Friendship Training is a 10-week evidence-based social skills group intervention for children aged 7- 11 years who are motivated in learning ways to make and keep friends. Parents/Guardians attend simultaneous sessions and gain skills to support their child.
