Child & Community Resources (CCR) recognizes that effective leadership is vital to the success of early learning and education. Without skilled and committed leaders to help shape teaching and learning, the opportunity to create and sustain high-quality learning environments is reduced.
Over the last six years, we have delivered leadership development opportunities across the North to over 300 leaders to strengthen our understanding of what leadership looks like in early childhood settings.
Founded on solid expert research, our Leadership Development Initiative is a strengths-based, self-directed program for both current and aspiring early childhood leaders in diverse settings and roles. We have worked to identify a set of capabilities on which early childhood and care leaders can frame their professional leadership journeys. Through the completion of our work, our shared learning experiences, and consultations with key leaders in this community, we have solidified a number of understandings about leadership in early childhood settings.
Why choose this leadership program?
Our leadership initiative is based on best practice and is uniquely developed for the early childhood educators and community partners. Our principles are mapped to the Ontario Renewed Early Years and Child Care Policy Framework, Early Learning for Every Child Today Framework, and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice – College of Early Childhood Educators. As well, we believe our training contributes to the Quality Improvement Plan for our community.
This initiative enables leaders and managers to benchmark, develop, and map their own professional development skills. Each participant is able to self-pace their leadership program in their own time; it is based on their current strengths.

Miranda Mackie, MA
MANAGER OF SERVICES
Miranda specializes in leadership development, employee engagement, and culture building. She has dedicated herself to helping leaders create meaning in their own lives and in their organizations, which results in motivated team members, authentic relationships and strong commitment and performance. Miranda believes that the leadership journey is about learning how to lead self; lead with and for others; and how to lead within and beyond the organization.
Miranda has facilitated several leadership development programs across the North with a vision of helping to create meaning and passion in people’s work by connecting them to who they are and what they do. Miranda’s passion for leadership is evident in her day-to-day work both within the agency and with community partners. She embraces all learning, successes and failures alike. She demonstrates a continued willingness to reflect on all opportunities to shape her leadership style and approach.
Working at Child & Community Resources for 20 years, she has led multi-functional teams as a Manager for Special Needs Resourcing, and Community and Family Respite Services. She has led and participated in multiple projects at the local, regional and provincial level with the early learning and child care sector. She has been integral to building partnerships and bridging relationships in order to collectively provide quality services to the children, youth and families.
Miranda is a graduate of Cambrian College as a Child and Youth Worker and holds an MA in Leadership Development from the Graduate Degree Program at the University of Guelph. She has also completed coursework and hours through the Coaches Training Institute, a global in-person coach training school and is working towards the attainment of credentials as an International Executive Coach.
Sherry Fournier has over 30 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector and has been with Child & Community Resources since its inception in 1992. Over the years, Sherry has held a number of positions in the organization and, in January 2014, assumed the role of Executive Director.
Her commitment to building a culture of learning, leadership, coaching, compassion, and wellbeing creates a strong foundation that allows everyone to thrive in a challenging and ever-changing environment. Her willingness to embrace change ensures that all opportunities are leveraged and CCR services are current and responsive.
Throughout her career, Sherry has learned that allowing space for curiosity, problem solving, vulnerability, mistakes, and reflection is essential to building confidence in individuals, teams, and organizations. She is passionate about supporting and mentoring colleagues, as well as new and emerging leaders throughout Northern Ontario.
She has a keen interest in understanding systems, the power of collaboration and strategic thinking. Sherry also enjoys participating on a number of provincial, regional, and local committees.
A proud graduate of the Child and Youth Worker program at Cambrian College, in 2010 she returned to school and graduated from Royal Roads University with a Masters of Arts in Leadership.
