The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) is a developmental assessment and curriculum that assesses language, learning, and social skills, as well as behavioural barriers that are interfering with your child’s ability to learn more advanced skills. This assessment program is based upon Applied Behavior Analysis with a focus on Skinner’s (1957) analysis of verbal behavior. The VB-MAPP can help identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses across a variety of critical skills. The assessment also makes it easy to compare and contrast your child’s skills with those of same aged peers.

About
Sudbury-Manitoulin

PEAK is a Relational Training System made up of 4 modules (Direct Training, Generalization, Transformation, and Equivalence). This empirically supported assessment allows for a summary of skills and areas to target for improvement across all modules including: foundational learning skills; perceptual learning skills; verbal comprehension skills; and verbal reasoning, memory, and math skills. The Generalization module can help identify areas to target for skill development to promote the emergence of generalized, flexible, and adaptive language skills that will open the door to many new experiences. The equivalence module evaluates a learner’s current ability to derive novel responses that have never been directly taught. The transformation assessment establishes a learner’s current ability to expressively and receptively relate events in a variety of contexts that promote learning.

Caregivers will implement strategies at home and participate in a series of individual consultation sessions with the facilitator to review their child’s progress, problem-solve challenges, and receive individualized guidance.

Caregivers will also be introduced to the idea that behaviour communicates important information about a child’s needs. By the end of the webinar, caregivers will have a clearer understanding of common characteristics of autism and will feel more confident observing their child’s behaviour, recognizing that behaviour can communicate needs, and beginning to notice patterns that may help them better support their child.

Sudbury-Manitoulin
1708 Lasalle Blvd, Greater Sudbury, ON P3A 2A1
PEERS® for Preschoolers is an evidence-based social skills program designed for children ages 4 to 6 who struggle with making and keeping friends. Developed at UCLA, this program provides a fun and supportive environment where children learn essential social and play skills. To participate, children should be able to use basic words to express themselves, follow simple directions, sit for short periods, and manage mild frustration. They should also show some interest in playing with others. Parent involvement is a key part of the program. While children learn social skills in their own small group sessions, parents attend concurrent coaching sessions. These sessions teach parents how to reinforce social skills at home and in everyday situations, helping children practice and apply what they learn. The program runs for 12 weeks in small group sessions, using role-playing, social coaching, play-based learning, and behavioral modeling. Families also receive homework assignments to support continued practice outside of class. Children develop skills such as starting conversations, taking turns, sharing, playing cooperatively, managing emotions, reading social cues, and responding to teasing or exclusion. By combining structured lessons, play, and active parent participation, PEERS® for Preschoolers helps children build confidence in social interactions and form meaningful friendships.

PEERS® School-Based Training is a proven social skills program designed for middle and high school students (ages 10-13) who have difficulty making and maintaining friendships. The program helps students develop important social skills to build confidence and improve their relationships with peers. The program teaches key skills, including how to start and maintain conversations, join group activities, make and keep friends, understand social cues like body language and tone of voice, and handle rejection or conflict. It also focuses on self-regulation, helping students manage their emotions in social situations. The program runs for 12 weeks with weekly sessions that last 1 hour. Each session introduces a new social skill, which students practice through role-playing and real-life scenarios. There is also a homework component, encouraging students to practice these skills at home with the support of their parents. This helps reinforce learning and build real-world confidence. To participate, students should be able to follow basic instructions, engage in simple conversations, and show some interest in socializing with others. The program works best for students who are motivated to improve their social skills and are ready to learn. By the end of the program, students typically see improved peer relationships, greater social confidence, and better emotional regulation. MNDFL Collective is excited to collaborate with Kim Boyuk, a local certified yoga instructor, to offer this supportive and restorative monthly event that is specifically designed for caregivers, offering a safe space to unwind, recharge, and cultivate mindfulness. Parenting a child with autism comes with its own unique challenges and these events aim to provide caregivers with the opportunity to take a break from life stressors and engage in gentle, restorative yoga that is designed for all bodies and capabilities to prioritize their own health and well-being. While caregivers take a moment for themselves, they are invited to bring their child with autism to work with our clinician, Gabriela Ron, on improving emotional awareness and building a coping skills toolkit.

About
Sudbury-Manitoulin
Webinar- available across the North Consultations- Sudbury and area
Learning social behaviour begins quite early in life. As we navigate this social world, we develop appropriate skills to the context of situations for healthy sexuality. For parents and children with ASD, this social world can become frightening. This interactive webinar will support families in developing useful social repertoires amongst their peers and the world around them. Kids should learn these skills as soon as possible to protect them from being vulnerable to certain situations. These tools will be shared with parents and individual consultations will target one appropriate social skill to maintain healthy boundaries.
